The handsome, award-winning actor, producer and singer will co-direct and co-star in his own version of the musical classic at Málaga’s newly-constructed Teatro Soho.
Not only is he bringing the show to his hometown, Málaga-born Antonio Banderas is proudly creating a new theatre as well. His latest production, A Chorus Line, will be the debut show at the magnificent Teatro del Soho Caixabank, situated in Málaga’s arty neighbourhood of `Soho´.
The former husband of actress Melanie Griffith and stepfather of Fifty Shades star Dakota Johnson is so eager to see the theatre project completed that he visited it earlier this year and even helped workmen mount the boards.
The playhouse will host 700 spectators in the main hall and 200 in a smaller auditorium, in addition to areas dedicated to invited performances, classes, rehearsals, seminars, conferences and exhibitions.
A Chorus Line opens in October 2019, with Banderas co-directing as well as playing a leading role as Zach, while putting the performers through their paces to make this classic musical one to remember.
It’s believed that the production will play for three months in Málaga before moving on to Madrid and Barcelona, and then on to US Spanish-speaking states such as Texas, Florida and California. However, if you wish to see the man himself, make sure you attend the Málaga stage now, as other acting commitments mean he will not be touring with the show.
When Caixabank became a partner and main sponsor, Banderas said in a statement that the aim was “to consolidate and broaden the artistic offering in Málaga with its own cultural space for the use and enjoyment of the people of the city, and for the projection beyond our borders of the activity generated in that space, its capacity, style and creative force…in other words, it’s a cultural initiative for and from Málaga.”
If you’re eager to reconnect with the actor and his works, Antonio Banderas currently stars with Penelope Cruz in Pedro Almodovar’s newest film, Pain & Glory.
Tickets for A Chorus Line are already on sale from between 18 and 70 Euros.
