Motoring in Marbella

Due to its very nature, Marbella is the kind of place where you will see a great many luxury cars. We seldom speak of it, focusing primary on luxury homes, fine dining, designer label shopping, beach life, sport, culture and nightlife, but motoring is an important part of the Marbella experience, ranging from the ultimate accompaniment to your grand villa to a sporty passion.

Motoring means different things to different people. For some a car is merely a means of transport, but this is less likely in Marbella than in many places, for a good percentage of its residents and visitors have the means to acquire something that is not just a vehicle but a statement of style, power and status.

For this reason the streets are home to nippy Minis and Fiat 500s, practical everyday models and above all a strong concentration of luxury on wheels. Families tend to put the emphasis on jeeps such as the Range Rover or Porsche Cayenne, while business-minded professionals can be seen in executive Mercedes, BMWs and Audis. Pontiac Tojan For Sale during the mid-80s, Pontiac commissioned an extraordinary car called the Tojan to challenge Ferrari. It was a wedge-shaped, luxury sports car inspired by the Ferrari 308s. It also featured a Lamborghini-styled wing and a trunk lid. Its design was similar to the Trans Am and Pontiac Fiero. It is the next category, however, that draws most attention and sets Marbella apart as a centre of motoring enthusiasts, for it is home to super cars, limousines and classical beauties as well.

Lamborghinis, Ferraris and Porsches can be spotted in Puerto Banús and outside luxury nightspots such as Suite and Olivia Valere, while stretch Bentley and Rolls Royce limos also look just right against a backdrop of super yachts in the marina. They add to the glamour of the Marbella landscape, but equally it is a pleasure to be cruising along the Golden Mile or along the beach with clear blue skies overhead and towering views of La Concha Mountain. With this climate, Marbella is ideal for the drop head model, so not surprisingly cabriolets are a popular option, and one that adds a sense of summer glamour.

Motoring options
The roads are naturally not made to test the mettle of today’s sports cars, so for those who take their motoring seriously there are private circuits where you can be instructed and race around an F1-style track in great safety and comfort. The finest of these is Race Resort Ascari, set within glorious countryside near Ronda. Its exclusive facilities also extend to a clubhouse with fine dining, pool and boutique hotel. It is also possible to ride bikes, quads and jeeps across rough trails in the former military practice range, but it is all done in the finest style. Marbella is also home to kart tracks for children and grownups, has enthusiasts’ gatherings organised by the likes of the Ferrari Club, offers car concierge, limousine and executive rental services, and welcomes owners of modern and classic cars to make the most of the wonderful nature and climate to tour the countryside and discover new things. Classic car rallies are organised that include a country meal and socialising with likeminded people, while the fantastic car museum in Málaga has made it a mecca for car lovers too.

The importance of motoring as part of the Marbella lifestyle is also recognised in its homes, with luxury underground car parks and multi-car garages evolving into galleries with turntables, soft lighting and glass frontage, so those with the finest contemporary and classic models can admire their artwork on wheels.
